We recently had the opportunity and honor to receive a visit from Isaac Bugeri, Ashoka Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to our organization, Umoja Sport.
The reason for his visit was to familiarize himself with our activities and understand the impact of our projects within the community. After a meeting with a few members of the Umoja Sport team, we undertook a field trip to observe our young people actively training in sport as a catalyst for community development.
The next day, we visited two of our partners, starting with the Lubumbashi health zone. Collaboration is already underway in the area of health and menstrual hygiene awareness. In addition, discussions are underway for the next steps, which include taking over the medical care of the children by the health institution, while Umoja Sport will use its sports methodology to facilitate their social reintegration.
Then we went to the office of the provincial sports ministry. There, cabinet members testified to the ideology of Umoja Sport and the quality of collaboration between the provincial sports ministry and Umoja Sport. Additionally, the firm revealed that Umoja Sport is part of the scientific research unit on the potential of sport for gender equality and environmental protection.
In the evening, Umoja Sport presented two other major activities. Firstly, there was a learning session on menstrual health and hygiene associated with sport for development at the Light of the Lord school. Although training on menstrual health and hygiene only concerns adolescent girls, sport for development is practiced by all students, regardless of age or gender, with the aim of fostering positive change in 'attitude.
Then, we attended a sports training for development provided by young people from the community, whether they were in school or not. This activity aims to promote a positive change in mentality among young people.
The doors of Umoja Sport are wide open to welcome volunteers from all over the world who wish to contribute their skills and expertise to contribute to the success of our organization.
Isaac Bugeri's visit was a valuable opportunity for Umoja Sport to strengthen its partnerships, promote its initiatives and strengthen its positive impact within the community. We are grateful to Mr. Bugeri for his visit and for his continued support of our mission to promote community development through sport.
